Over the past decade, Palehorse has honed its craft and earned a strong reputation for the surfboards they produce. Born in God’s country—the surf capital of Australia, Torquay— This is where Palehorse began.

Founder Matthew Shay grew up in Torquay, where he was drawn to the ocean from a young age. His obsession with surfboards began at the age of 10 after a tour of Russell Graham’s Moonlight Glassing factory, an experience that lit the creative spark and planted the dream.

Matthew went on to spend years working alongside renowned board builders including Pearl Surfboards, Corey Graham, 4D, and Strapper. Through this journey, he refined his skills and developed his own distinct style—That journey led to the creation of Palehorse—a name that stands for doing things your own way, staying true, and making boards with style.

For the last 5 years Palehorse Surfboards has made Ocean Grove the home and base for his studio. This is where Matthew builds all boards from start to finish. Palehorse welcomes anyone to visit the studio and see where the magic happens.
