ABOUT THE PRIZE:
A collaboration of two artists & friends, a project that has been talked about for 6 years ever since Matthew and Karl first met. A board that breathes heart soul and edge.
A 6’4 × 19 x 2 5/8, a modern single fin with a heavy 70’s influence. A V bottom, chimed down rails, with a beak nose and a 7 ½ inch Dick Brewer inspired fin with a bat wing cut out. This board runs really fast down the line, a speed demon. The V bottom, the rocker profile and the tail curve allows for fast, hard and critical turns, whilst keeping style and flow at the forefront. There is a good amount of foam under the chest for paddling and for allowing early entries into the waves. The foam balances out nicely through the nose and tail making for a very beautiful profile. The overall shape and design of this board is made for critical surfing, the modern take on the 70s traditional style.
The airbrush art work on the deck features Matthew Shays signature freehand spray and unique colours, inspired directly from the psychedelic 70’s era from the likes of Rainbow Surfboards, Hot buttered and Zephyr of that time. The bottom features a hand spray artwork by Karl from KDS Designs which is a homage to Frank Frazetta’s original “Death Dealers II” painting. Karls use of lace and metal flake reflects the custom paint of the 70’s when a mix of van culture, car, bikes and surfing ruled.
